I’m Alisa Skatrud, a member of the Needham School Committee since 2022. I am the mother of three children who have attended Needham Public Schools, and I have volunteered in the schools and community since my family first moved to Needham in 2000. I’ve spent my career in the financial services industry while also pursuing graduate-level education in the areas of disability and health policy.

My Priorities

I am passionate about public education, and I believe my personal and professional experience will help me continue to effectively advocate for the needs of Needham’s students, families, and schools in the coming years.

Our students are educated for the future

  • Provide students with critical thinking, collaboration, problem-solving, and communication skills

  • Implement teaching practices and curricula that are future-oriented and evidence-based

  • Ensure we are able to attract and retain high-quality teachers and staff

Our buildings are well-suited for our students’ learning needs

  • Prioritize the rehabilitation or rebuilding of Pollard and Mitchell schools

  • Ensure spaces in all schools meet the evolving needs of students and educators

  • Maintain our existing buildings and use space wisely

  • Improve facilities for the performing arts

Our students feel included and supported

  • Promote an inclusive environment where ALL students feel they are valued and belong

  • Provide supports to meet students' social and emotional needs

Our community is connected and engaged

  • Increase transparency and communication town-wide to build an engaged community of students, families, educators, and community members

  • Collaborate with town leadership to invest prudently in school programs and infrastructure
